In our tradition the groom goes to the bride's house to pick
her up to start their wedding day. So my brother and his groom men went to
her house in the limousine to pick her and her brides maids up to go to the
church.
The church ceremony was at "Debre Tsion Medhanealem
Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church", in South Chicago. Around one o'clock in
the afternoon the bride and groom arrived at church in a big white
limousine. They were welcomed by the church choir who were singing beautiful
spiritual marriage songs.
In our church the tradition is that both the bride and the
groom have to be walked on the aisle by their father, brother or guardian.
This was the way they came in, first the candle girl (Natey)
and the candle boy (Micheal), followed by the flower girl (my
daughter Eden) with the ring- bearer (Eyobe) . Then Ayna, our bride walked in with her
oldest brother, Dr. Mogese followed by her bride maids then the groom,
Leykun came in with our dad, Mr. Mehret followed by his groom men. During
the marriage ceremony our priest, Aba Micheal put the beautifully decorated
robes and large golden crowns on both of them. They get to wear them till
the door on their out from the church.
When the church ceremony ended there was a small reception
held down stairs. The meal was very delicious, it was home made Ethiopian
traditional food called Enjera fetfet.
